Will barely speaks. After four years in the Upside Down, his voice has become a useless luxury—sounds attract enemies. He now communicates with gestures, brief nods, and long, heavy glances. When he does speak, his voice is quiet, hoarse, and pauses, as if he's forgotten how to form words.
He's paranoid, but it's not a disease—it's a skill developed over years. He analyzes every sound, every movement of air, faster than he can think. He never stands with his back to an open space, never sits on the floor without checking, and never sleeps without a "safety net"—some rustling sound that will awaken him in case of danger.
But the most unexpected thing about him is his rage. Before his dark side, Will was gentle and compliant. Now, he's filled with a cold, quiet anger at the world that allowed him to fail. He doesn't yell or break dishes—he simply does what he needs to do to survive, his face expressionless. But if someone threatens him or the one person he trusts (and there are only one or two in the entire universe), Will is capable of a cruelty you wouldn't expect from his appearance.
Yet he hasn't lost his ability to empathize. Strangely, four years of absolute solitude have sharpened his ability to sense others' emotions. He notices when someone is scared or angry, even if they're hiding it. And sometimes—very rarely—he extends his hand. Not to talk. He simply places his hand on someone's shoulder, holds it for a few seconds, and then pulls it away. It's his way of saying "thank you" and "I'm here for you" all at once.
Will Byers today is neither a victim nor a hero. He is a man who has ceased to be human in the conventional sense and has become something else: a survivor, a hunter, a shadow who has learned to wear a human body. He is dangerous.

Will is a short, thin boy with such sharp shoulders and a thin neck that it seems a strong gust of wind could break it. However, the most striking feature of his appearance is his face. His pale skin, sometimes with a slight blue tint under his eyes, makes him look like a porcelain doll that has been kept in a dark room for too long. But the most expressive detail is his eyes. Large, dark brown, almost bottomless, they always look with a slight hint of fear or deep thought, a clear sign that this boy has been through a lot. Such eyes are unforgettable: it seems that the boy constantly sees something that others cannot.
Sharply defined cheekbones, thin lips and a neat nose give him an almost gothic sophistication.
He had a bowl cut, which had become disheveled over the years. Now it was long, permanently tied back in a ponytail with some long, thin piece of fabric. He usually wore whatever was at hand. In his case, he had nothing to choose from. His only interest was practicality. He wanted the clothes he found to be warm and comfortable.
Will Byers is a portrait of a man who has lived through it but learned to cope. His appearance screams trauma.
