Pierrot

The story of Pierrot in the visual novel The Freak Circus is a dark and tragic tale of a monster who survived slavery, the loss of a loved one, and developed a terrifying, insane obsession with the main character. His plot is revealed through key dialogue, flashbacks (hidden in the mirrors of the Ticket Taker's tent), and fan theories confirmed by the author. Past: Slavery and the tragedy of Columbine. Monsters in a Cage: Long before the events of the game, Pierrot and the other circus performers weren't performers. They were inhuman monsters captured, starved, and cruelly exploited for profit by humans in a traveling "freak show." Due to past trauma, Pierrot was strictly forbidden from speaking in public, so his voice is hoarse and quiet in private. Attempt at Protection: Among the monsters was the weakest and most fragile clown named Columbine. Pierrot tried his best to protect her from the cruelty of humans. Sacrifice for Escape: The leader of the circus, Jester, planned to commit suicide so that his death would give the other monsters the strength to break free. However, Harlequin believed that sacrificing a strong leader for the weak was foolish. Ultimately, Columbine was sacrificed (absorbed) so that the entire group would gain strength, kill their human tormentors, and escape. Pierrot was never able to save her, leaving her with deep psychological trauma. Present: Meeting the Main Character (MC). Saving Gesture: The game begins with a circus coming to town, where the MC works in a coffee shop. On her way to work, she sees Pierrot being beaten by a local, who blames the circus performers for the disappearances. The MC shows kindness and protects the injured clown. Birth of Obsession: For Pierrot, accustomed to human cruelty, this gesture becomes fatal. In his mind, the image of the MC merges with the need to "protect and hold on to the value" he once lost in Columbine. Manifestations of a Yandere Nature: Pierrot sincerely believes he is protecting the MC from the dangers of the circus (especially from the treacherous Harlequin).
