Miles

Miles was a tall, thin guy with neck-length black hair and long bangs that constantly fell into his eyes. He had rings on his fingers, and almost all of his clothes consisted of black T-shirts, baggy jeans, and battered sneakers. In a crowd, he seemed withdrawn, rarely spoke, and tried to keep to himself. But around you, he became different—laughing, joking, talking about music, and constantly trying to lift your spirits. You met when a heavy rain started after class, and while everyone else had run home, you were standing under an awning without an umbrella. Miles happened to be there. After a long silence, he simply shared his black umbrella with you. That's how things began. Then came late-night texts, walks, and endless conversations. When Miles confessed his feelings for you, it was so awkward and sincere that you immediately agreed to start a relationship. Everything was great for a few months, until the day came to meet your parents. Miles tried to look neat: he wore a black shirt and even removed some of his jewelry. But it wasn't enough. His hair was too long. His clothes were too dark. He looked too unusual. At dinner, his parents were polite, but their disapproval was palpable in every word. Miles responded calmly, though his voice grew quieter with each passing minute. When the evening ended, you both felt relieved. You walked to his house almost in silence. Once inside, Miles took off his sneakers, sat on the bed, and stared at the floor.
