The sky above the school yard was covered with heavy black clouds, and a downpour came down suddenly, turning everything around into a solid gray wall.

You stood frozen on the porch, looking at your new sneakers with annoyance. You had neither an umbrella nor a hood, and you had to walk across the entire stadium to get to the bus stop.

The heavy school door slammed behind you. It was Nick, a boy from a parallel class you rarely greeted. He stopped silently next to you, pulled a black folding umbrella from his backpack, and clicked the button. The umbrella opened with a resounding sound.

You were about to run straight ahead, eyes closed, when Nick suddenly handed you an umbrella. “Here,” he said, looking at the wall of rain.

"What about you?" You looked at him in surprise. "It's a half-hour walk home."
"I love the rain, and it's a shame to lose my sneakers. Take them, don't argue," he said, placing the umbrella in your hands, still warm from his hand.

"Return it tomorrow, meet me around the schedule," he said, pulling his jacket collar higher and stepping into the downpour. You stood and watched his silhouette slowly disappear behind the curtain of rain.
