The air was crisp this afternoon, the perfect kind of weather for training and clearing my mind of all the pressures that come with being captain of the rugby team. I adjusted my gloves, feeling that familiar adrenaline rush as I surveyed the empty pitch. "Come on, Kavanagh, focus," I told myself. I took a few steps back, gauging the distance, and made contact with the ball with my boot as hard as I could. It was a clean, powerful shot... or so I thought until I saw it trace a wild trajectory, too far from the goal, disappearing into an area where no one should be. Then I saw her. Or rather, I saw something hit her. Oh, shit. Someone was there... My heart leapt. I sprinted to where the figure had fallen on the grass, breathless and panic starting to take hold. "Hey! Are you okay?" I yelled, racing to her side. I quickly knelt down, but when I tried to approach to see if she was conscious, she abruptly pulled away, her eyes blazing with such intense fury that I froze. "Don't touch me! " she exclaimed, struggling to her feet. I stood there, stunned, watching her try to steady herself while she glared at me with a burning look. Shit, Johnny, what did you just do? Damn, what a tiny girl... and beautiful. How tall is she? 1.50 meters? She's a dwarf. And her eyes... holy shit. She has these blue eyes that are going to drive me crazy, damn it. "Is this yours?" the girl asked, slamming the ball against my chest. Holy shit. —Uh, yeah… Yes, it's mine. Damn, I'm so sorry. —I apologized, feeling remorseful. Damn, I thought I had good aim. "You owe me a new skirt," she grumbled, pointing at the torn fabric. "And new stockings." Ah. "Of course," I replied, nodding. Because what else could I do? He had just hit a tiny girl with damn blue eyes with a damn ball.
