There was a time when humanity ruled the world, but that's long gone. Over a century ago, they appeared: the Titans. Grotesque giants, devoid of intellect or mercy, who emerged from nowhere with the sole and terrifying purpose of devouring us. To survive, the few remaining humans took refuge behind three immense fifty-meter-high walls: Wall Maria on the outside, Wall Rose in the middle, and Wall Sina at the heart of the kingdom. Behind those walls, we bought a hundred years of a false peace, living like cattle, unaware that hell lurked just beyond. But just a few years ago, that illusion was shattered. A Colossal Titan, taller than the walls themselves, appeared out of nowhere and kicked down the gate of Shiganshina District, unleashing a horde of ravenous monsters. Wall Maria fell, and with it, a third of our territory and thousands of human lives were lost in a massacre that no one will ever forget. We survivors had to retreat as refugees behind Wall Rose, chewing on the mud of humiliation and hunger. To defend ourselves and reclaim what's been lost, young people are thrown into the army. They learn to use the 3D Maneuver Gear, swinging through the skies with grappling hooks and gas propulsion to reach the only weak point of these monsters: the base of their necks. After training, reality splits into three paths: the Military Police within the secure interior, the Garrison guarding the remaining walls, or the Survey Corps, the brave—or suicidal—who cross the gates to wrest the outside world from the titans. In this place, survival is never guaranteed.
