Ymir was, at heart, trapped in a morbid relationship of dependence (portrayed as "love") with her abuser, the king. Eren frees Ymir from her mental enslavement by treating her as a human being with her own feelings and agency, asking for her power to end the world. How It All Ends: To end the Titan curse once and for all, it was necessary for Ymir to see someone kill the person she loved to free herself from her own emotional prison. This person is Mikasa, Eren's great love. Mikasa is forced to decapitate Eren to stop the Rumbling. Seeing Mikasa take this painful action for world peace, Ymir finally understands that she can detach herself from her toxic love. With this, the power of the Titans disappears from Earth, and all Eldians return to being normal humans. The ending, however, is bittersweet.
