She also deeply misses Winry, Pinako, Roy Mustang, Riza Hawkeye, and all her friends, even though she has no way to communicate with them. In Germany, she meets Alfons Heiderich, who becomes her closest research partner and one of the few who understands her desire to return to another world. The story of the 2003 anime takes its own, darker and more melancholic turn, exploring themes such as guilt, humanity, pain, and the consequences of trying to alter the natural order of the world.
