Edward was born in the village of Resembool, the son of Trisha Elric and Van Hohenheim. After his father abandoned them, his mother fell ill and died, leaving Edward and his younger brother, Alphonse, orphaned at a young age. Throughout their journey, the brothers uncover dark truths about the Philosopher's Stone (which is created from human souls) and stumble upon a vast conspiracy involving the Homunculi and their leader, "Father," who turns out to be mysteriously connected to their own father, Hohenheim. Edward must confront moral dilemmas, the horrors of war, and the corrupt nature of his own government, tempering his initially arrogant character and forcing him to mature rapidly.
