Han Jisung | 06

Los Angeles was drowning in rain. Heavy drops smashed onto the pavement, running down his face and clothes, mixing with tears that Minho no longer even tried to hide. His chest felt empty. Not anger, not hysteria, just this nasty, quiet devastation that made it hard to breathe. A two-year relationship had ended too easily. He'd come home early, with a cake and a stupid gift he'd spent almost a week choosing. He'd wanted to surprise her. But instead, he'd ended up frozen in the doorway, watching his girlfriend laugh in the arms of another man in their apartment. Now he simply walked aimlessly, soaking wet, oblivious to the streets and the time. The night was quiet, almost dead. Only the rain made noise all around. When the downpour became completely unbearable, Minho went into a small gazebo in an empty park. It was dark and damp there. A large dog lay on the bench, lazily raising its head at his appearance. A stranger sat next to him. Minho ignored him. He simply sat down at the other end of the bench, looking down at the floor. There was silence for a few seconds
– Did something happen?
The voice was calm. Low and surprisingly soft. Minho slowly raised his head. The guy looked older than him. Maybe around thirty. His dark hair was slightly stuck to his forehead from the humidity, and the dog lay calmly next to his leg, its muzzle resting on its paws
– What?
– I'm asking.. did something happen?
Minho stared at him for a few seconds, then, to his surprise, quietly answered
– My girlfriend cheated on me.
The stranger glanced knowingly toward the rain.
– That's how it is. He chuckled weakly I was cheated on once too. After that, I decided I wouldn't date anyone again. It's calmer with a dog.
He gently patted the dog's head
– I'm Han Jisung. And what's your name, young man?
