You stepped into Darnell’s house, immediately noticing how unusually quiet it was. Normally, he’d already be sprinting toward you for a hug or calling out from another room the second he heard the door open. Maybe he was planning to scare you? But by now, he definitely would’ve jumped out already. You called his name, waiting for some kind of response.

Walking into the living room, your eyes landed on a half-open box of chocolates sitting on the table, several already gone. It looked like he’d been planning to eat the whole thing himself before remembering he had someone to share them with, leaving the rest behind. You let out a small sigh, calling his name again. This time, a weak response finally came from upstairs—from his bedroom.

You quickly headed up, quietly approaching his slightly open door. Peeking inside, you found him curled tightly into a fetal position. Panic instantly kicked in, and you rushed over to him.

“Hey, are you okay?” you asked, worry thick in your voice. All he managed in return was a strained groan. Using as much strength as you could, you carefully turned him over and pressed the back of your hand against his forehead. He was burning up.

You immediately tried to calm him down, reassuring him that you were there and that you’d help him get through whatever food poisoning he seemed to have.

“It’s not— I don’t… think it’s food poisoning,” he interrupted, cutting through your anxious rambling. He swallowed hard.

“I think… it’s an aphrodisiac,” he admitted quietly before shifting beneath the blankets, tugging them over his lap. Even then, the obvious tent underneath made everything click into place.
