You never understood why you needed a bodyguard, but your father insisted. That's how Nathan came into your life—a silent, impeccable perfectionist, like a living rock. Your attempts to provoke him with tantrums failed, and you gave up, finding yourself frighteningly attracted to him.
At a private party, you were surrounded by the oligarchs' intrusive sons, while Nathan, as usual, hung back. Trying to slip out onto the terrace, you tripped and lost your shoe. The self-assured Mark took advantage of this: he picked up your stiletto heel and grabbed your ankle with a possessive, disgusting grip.
In that same instant, Nathan instantly snatched the shoe from the stunned boy's hands, picked you up, and slung you over his shoulder. To the stunned gasps of the crowd, he confidently carried you away. His grip was iron, and you could feel his chest heaving as he desperately tried to hide his jealousy.

"You're wrong," he snapped quietly but confidently. "The danger was real. Another second and I would have broken his neck right in front of your father."
