HISTORY II

King Aegon V Targaryen gave his solemn word that his youngest daughter, Princess Rhaelle, would marry Ormund Baratheon, the heir of Lord Lyonel, and peace between the Iron Throne and Storm's End was restored.

LORD OF STORM'S END

Lord Lyonel Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End, was a loyal supporter and friend of King Aegon V Targaryen and Queen Betha Blackwood during their reign. King Aegon and Queen Betha made several marriage agreements for their children in 237 AC that would strengthen alliances with Great Houses to gain support for their cause. Lord Lyonel received the best of all the offers, as his daughter would marry the heir to the Iron Throne, Prince Duncan Targaryen. However, in 239 AC, while traveling through the Riverlands, Prince Duncan met and fell in love with a lovely and mysterious commoner named Jenny of Oldstones. They eventually married, breaking the marriage agreement he had with House Baratheon without her parents' permission. Obviously, this had its consequences: Lord Lyonel was enraged by the broken marriage contract, feeling that the honor of House Baratheon had been insulted, and swore an oath of blood and vengeance, renouncing the alliance with the Iron Throne and crowning himself the new Storm King, rising in rebellion against his former friend, King Aegon V Targaryen. Although King Aegon V Targaryen himself had also married for love, he did everything he could to undo his eldest son's marriage, pressuring Prince Duncan to leave Jenny. He gathered the High Septon, the Grand Maester, and the Small Council and demanded that Prince Duncan choose between Jenny and the Iron Throne. Not even this made Prince Duncan waver, abdicating the title of Prince of Dragonstone and his claim to the Iron Throne, passing everything to his brother, Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen. However, even this was not enough to end the Storm's End rebellion or calm the wrath of the self-proclaimed King Lyonel Baratheon. The bloody battle was inevitable, but thanks to Ser Duncan the Tall, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, the rebellion was short-lived, as he defeated the self-proclaimed King in single combat, subduing him.

HISTORY II

Besides Ser Lyonel, Egg also convinced Ser Robyn Rhysling to side with Dunk, while Raymun convinced Ser Humfrey Hardyng and Ser Humfrey Beesbury to do the same. When Ser Steffon Fossoway declares that he will side with Prince Aerion (betraying Dunk's trust), Raymun Fossoway is indignant at his cousin's betrayal and begs Dunk to knight him so that he can replace his cousin, but Ser Lyonel Baratheon ends up doing it in his place, as Dunk hesitated. Prince Baelor Breakspear ends up being Dunk's last ally. Ser Lyonel laughs in approval of Ser Raymun Fossoway's attitude: Shortly after being knighted, he paints the Fossoway house mace green in retaliation for his cowardly cousin, Ser Steffon's, actions. During the beginning of the battle, Ser Lyonel rode on Dunk's left side, while Prince Baelor Targaryen remained on his right. Initially, Dunk struggled against Prince Aerion, but he quickly used his physical strength to engage in grappling, striking him with his shield. By this point, many other warriors had already fallen, including two of the three members of the Kingsguard, but Ser Lyonel remained standing and fighting. While Dunk dragged Prince Aerion through the mud to force him to withdraw his accusation and end the combat as quickly as possible, Ser Lyonel Baratheon joined Prince Baelor to face Prince Maekar, who received three blows for every one he landed, but unfortunately one of these blows struck his brother, Prince Baelor, in the head. After winning the combat, Dunk was exonerated, but Prince Baelor died from the blow he received from his brother, Prince Maekar.

HISTORY

In 209 AC, Ser Lyonel participated in the Tourney at Ashford, whose five original champions to be challenged were: Ser Androw Ashford, Ser Robert Ashford, Lord Leo Tyrell, Ser Humfrey Hardyng, and Prince Valarr Targaryen. In the first joust, Ser Lyonel challenged Ser Robert Ashford, the youngest son of Lord Ashford. After breaking nine lances, both fell from their horses simultaneously in the tenth round and went to a sword fight. Ser Robert eventually admitted defeat and was replaced by Ser Lyonel in the ranks of champions, alongside Prince Valarr Targaryen, Lord Leo Tyrell, Ser Humfrey Hardyng, and Ser Tybolt Lannister. Ser Lyonel fought notable battles against several opponents who challenged him for the title of champion. He would usually burst into thunderous laughter when his attacks touched his opponents' shields. If the challenger wore any kind of visible adornment on his helmet, Ser Lyonel would throw it into the crowd. After the jousts, Dunk ends up assaulting Prince Aerion Brightflame to save Tanselle's life and ends up being imprisoned for assaulting a member of the Royal Family. Dunk chose a Trial by Combat to prove his innocence but was only offered a Trial of Seven, meaning Dunk was obliged to find six allies to support him in his trial, or else he would be killed without a chance to fight. Prince Aerion thought Dunk wouldn't be able to find supporters, but thanks to Egg and Raymun Fossoway's influence, others joined his cause. Egg sought out Ser Lyonel Baratheon, but when the latter tried to dismiss the young Prince, the boy slipped between his servant's legs and threw a jug of wine at Ser Lyonel's head in the hope of getting his attention, convincing him to join Dunk in the Trial of Seven, an event that hadn't happened in a hundred years. Ser Lyonel was thrilled at the prospect of fighting the knights of the Royal Guard while simultaneously defeating Prince Maekar.

APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY

Ser Lyonel Baratheon was an imposing and very tall man, a head taller than Ser Raymun Fossoway and almost the same height as Ser Duncan the Tall. He usually wore his samite coat, which bore the crowned stag of House Baratheon, and his helmet sported a pair of magnificent iron horns. Ser Lyonel was considered a giant and also one of the greatest warriors of his time, as he was famous for his prowess in battle. Lyonel was considered arrogant, and during battles and tournaments he would let out loud, audible laughs that thundered almost as loudly as the blows he struck his opponents. He was also quite proud, as he was not the type of man who was easily satisfied when his pride was wounded. However, he was also a man loyal to his friends and those who earned his respect, as he had always been among King Aegon V Targaryen's most loyal and supportive friends since he was just a boy, and convinced him to help Ser Duncan during the Trial of Seven at Ashford. This friendship and loyalty lasted until Prince Duncan Targaryen, son of King Aegon V, broke his vows and brought dishonor to House Baratheon.
