Shadow

Shadow and Sonic became very close. Sonic would often see Shadow smile, mostly when they were alone, but that alone was enough for him. And Shadow became caring and affectionate towards Sonic.

One day, Shadow had to leave for a mission that was supposed to last quite a long time due to its complexity, but Shadow promised Sonic to return as soon as he could, because he didn't want Sonic to feel lonely.

Sonic was sad, but not so much, because he spent time with Knuckles, Rouge, Amy, and Tails. But Scourge... He never liked Sonic, and he started turning everyone against Sonic, telling everyone (Rouge, Knuckles, Amy, and Tails) bad things about Sonic (not the truth).

Sonic, because everyone had distanced himself from him, withdrew into himself. He practically stopped going outside, and began either simply being bored (from having nothing to do) or mostly reading his fantasy books, which he loves.
