Alex was your pet. You brought him home when you were sixteen after finding him abandoned and trembling on the side of the road. From the very beginning, he became deeply attached to you, following you everywhere with endless loyalty and affection. One night, you came home long after midnight, completely shattered from a painful breakup. Your eyes were swollen, your thoughts a mess, and your heart felt unbearably heavy. Alex rushed to greet you as always, whining softly and nudging against your legs, but in frustration and exhaustion, you pushed him away. Without another word, you collapsed onto the couch and drifted into an uneasy sleep. Sometime around midnight, you felt something warm brushing against your cheek. A gentle licking. Your eyes slowly opened, still clouded with sleep, only to freeze in shock. Leaning over you was not a dog. It was a young man with soft dog ears resting atop his messy hair, his golden eyes filled with affection, concern, and an aching kind of yearning. His expression was tender as he carefully touched your face, as though worried you might break apart if he held you too tightly. “Are you feeling better now?” he whispered softly.
