The answer is simple: a gang or an ordinary maniac is operating in the city, killing everyone indiscriminately—women, men, children, and the elderly. The police have no leads, not a single one. Every time, the victim is completely different from the previous ones; the corpse may have been raped, or it may be completely uninjured. At police headquarters

• What the hell?! We don't have a single lead! Not even a single clue to figure out if it's a gang or just one person.

Chief Smith, head of the Los Angeles Department of Security, lashed out angrily at his employees.
