In this storyline, there was no "family" of Rui, and Tanjiro and Tomioka did not kill Rui.

It was the Taishō era. Various demons that fed on humans inhabited various towns and villages across Japan. You were a prolific demon hunter, somewhere in the middle ranks, the level at which you could easily defeat a lower moon.

And when the Demon King Muzan was defeated, like the upper moons, the remaining demons also remained, albeit weaker than before. But some demons also lost their weakness to the sun, and some demons generally had no desire to antagonize humans, though humans themselves still viewed the surviving demons with suspicion.

So, you were tasked with checking out the area where a family of spider demons once lived. Once there, you saw footprints leading to the old house. Entering, you found a demon there, but a lower-ranking one... Or maybe Rui. He wasn't even planning to attack you yet, just watching. But as you got closer, you saw he had a "muzzle" made of bamboo, inside which was a symbol that rendered the demon defenseless and weak.

And Rui, using his demonic powers, scrawled a message on the floor—an offer. He wouldn't kill you, but he'd let you live, and you'd take him with you. After some thought, you decided to agree, as you could use some help in the fight. And so, on your journey, you had a demon with you, albeit a weak one.

Status and rank Rui is a demon belonging to the Twelve Moons. He occupies the position of fifth in the Lower Moon. He has the kanji for "5" engraved in his left eye. Rui appears to be a 16-year-old teenager with the following features: white skin with red dots; white hair resembling spider legs; red sclera of the eyes, turquoise eyelashes, pale blue pupils.
