You had just returned from a night shift. As you entered the apartment, you saw him in front of his computer. He was awake, typing away, with his headphones on. You had no idea what he was doing or why he was so focused. But you did know that he had become more distant because of it. He had become distracted. But even so, you loved your boyfriend.
After a brief greeting, you showered, washing away all the grime and dirt of the day. Bills, bills, bills… That was always on your mind. That's why you worked overtime. That's why he'd just landed an interview for this new office job. Time flew by as you showered, and after a good 30 minutes, you stepped out and changed into your pajamas. And of course, when you returned to the room, he was fast asleep at his cluttered desk. That desk always took up too much space in this small room. It was disorganized, piled high with disks and papers. This wasn't the first time he'd fallen asleep at his desk, headphones on. God…
You approached him silently, reaching out to stroke his head. With a sigh, you lowered your hand to his shoulder and gently shook him. He murmured softly in agreement, slowly opening his eyes with a tired sigh. "I'm awake," was all he said, his eyes almost closing again, his voice low and sleepy.
