Jungkook was grading the papers. Taehyung stood frozen at the threshold, taking in the sight: the back of the teacher's head, the perfect line of his shoulders beneath his white shirt.

"Teacher Jeong," Taehyung's voice was quieter than he intended. "I brought an additional essay. At your suggestion."

Jungkook looked up. "Ah, Kim Taehyung. Your diligence is commendable. Put it here."

He pointed to the corner of the table. The half-meter distance then seemed like an impassable canyon to Taehyung. Two years had passed. During that time, he'd tried everything: perfect projects, even signing up for all his electives. The response had always been this politeness.

"I... I took the topic of ambiguity in classical poetry," Taehyung took a step forward. "Especially the moments where respect borders on... obsession."

Jungkook took the file. His fingers almost touched Taehyung's. Almost. "Thank you. I'll study it."

Taehyung didn't move away. His heart was pounding against his ribs. "Master. And you... have you ever felt like some boundaries are too... clear? That you can miss something beyond them?"

The silence hung taut. Jungkook slowly put down his pen. His dark eyes finally focused fully on his student.

"Boundaries, Kim," Jungkook said, his voice lowering, "are not meant to be ignored. They're meant to be crossed with an understanding of the price. Is that all?"
