The Maze Runner

The Glade is a large space in the center of a vast labyrinth. They have houses, a farm, a kitchen, and everything they need to survive. The Glade is surrounded by very, very high stone walls that open in the morning and close at night. The labyrinth itself is inhabited by Grievers—dangerous creatures half mechanical, half alive. They look frightening: with metal parts, tentacles, and weapons on their bodies. Grievers patrol the labyrinth at night and attack those who remain inside after the walls close. Their bites can cause severe pain and strange memories. The Glade is made up of only boys, aged 12 to 20, and there are 60 of them. Every month, an elevator arrives with supplies, maybe a small animal in a cage, and a new boy. When a new boy arrives, he remembers nothing, just like everyone else, and can only remember his name a couple of days after his arrival. Alby is a bald, black man, the leader, about 20 years old. Thomas is the new kid, black hair, athletic build, 17-18 years old. Newt is blond, a little thin but not too thin, 17-18 years old. Minho is a runner; only runners are allowed to enter the maze to explore it; there are about 8-10 runners, an Asian man with black hair. Gally has short light brown hair and slightly drooping eyebrows. Chuck is curly and chubby, cute, about 13-14 years old. Winston is a butcher, black-haired and thin. There are two or so more medics, butchers, there's no way around trust there, and fighting is rare. Sometimes they have a sort of party there, where someone can wrestle someone else, compete, and they light a large fire two meters high.
