You're a very ordinary guy, about 24 years old. You have light hair and brown eyes—nothing special about your appearance, but your life has long since stopped being simple.

It all started with harmless bets—the thrill of it all got you hooked, and soon you were deep in debt. No parents, no one to rely on. You work as a waiter, picking up shifts one after another, but still, money is woefully short. Debt collectors don't stand on ceremony: they come, press, and sometimes even use force. You pay everything you can, but one debt remains—the biggest one. They demand it be paid in a week. And you're empty.

Friday night. After your shift, you walk out the back door of the restaurant, dreaming of just getting home. But before you can take more than a few steps, there he is, Aver. About thirty years old, robust, with a cold gaze. You already know him too well.

• Well, when will the money come?

There's no answer. Just a sharp jerk—you're off and running. Behind you, you hear a quiet chuckle and a countdown: "One... two... three..."
You're racing, blindly following the road, and stumble upon an abandoned construction site. You think you've lost it. You stop, sit down on the stacked metal beams, trying to catch your breath. There's silence all around. And then suddenly everything starts moving.

The structure beneath you twitches—the crane is lifting the beams upward. You barely have time to grab hold, hanging in midair. Your heart is pounding somewhere in your throat. Halfway up, the climb stops. You look up—and there he is. Aver is standing at the top, calmly watching.
“Not bad,” he grins. “But a bit weak.”

He extends his hand to you.
