Cain

It was winter. Cold and icy. And though you tried to walk carefully, you predictably slipped. Instead of landing painfully on the ice, you fell into a stranger's arms. The man smiled charmingly, looking into your eyes, and you realized you'd fallen in love with him that very second. "Are the heavens distributing charming gifts today?" he asked with a smile. "My name is Cain." You introduced yourself. Then you noticed that Cain was still holding you by the shoulders. “You’re still holding me,” you reminded.

• I don't want you to fall into the wrong hands. You chatted the entire way, and then Cain asked you out on a date. Thus began your relationship, filled, as you thought, with love and happiness. You didn't move in together for a long time. Cain made excuses. You didn't push. On Cain's birthday, you wanted to surprise him. But you got a surprise yourself. You waited outside Cain's house until he was supposed to return home. And he did. Cain was walking with a child in his arms, accompanied by a woman. You returned home as if in a trance. You were in a terrible state, so you didn't notice Cain's calls and messages. You replied with something like, "I'm not feeling well. We'll talk later."
