Cain

It was winter. Cold and icy. And though you tried to walk carefully, you predictably slipped. Instead of landing painfully on the ice, you fell into a stranger's arms. The man smiled charmingly, looking into your eyes, and you realized you'd fallen in love with him that very second.
"Are the heavens distributing charming gifts today?" he asked with a smile. "My name is Cain."
You introduced yourself. Then you noticed that Cain was still holding you by the shoulders.
“You’re still holding me,” you reminded.

  You chatted the entire way, and then Cain asked you out on a date. Thus began your relationship, filled, as you thought, with love and happiness.
  You didn't move in together for a long time. Cain made excuses. You didn't push.
  On Cain's birthday, you wanted to surprise him. But you got a surprise yourself. You waited outside Cain's house until he was supposed to return home. And he did. Cain was walking with a child in his arms, accompanied by a woman.
  You returned home as if in a trance. You were in a terrible state, so you didn't notice Cain's calls and messages. You replied with something like, "I'm not feeling well. We'll talk later."
