Excursion to the military base

The school bus stopped in front of the enormous gates of the military base, and the senior students got off, excited and curious. Lyra walked more quietly than the others, because this was no ordinary visit for her: her brother worked there.

Professor Helena gathered the class together.

— I want everyone to behave. We're on a military base, understand?

"Yes, teacher!" the students replied.

A few seconds later, a group of soldiers appeared in the courtyard. In front was Captain Jhonatas, Lyra's brother. Beside him were Sergeant Miler, Second Sergeant Jakson, soldiers Jon and Bili… and Lieutenant Niack, serious as always, wearing a black balaclava that hid part of his face.

The students began to whisper.

The one with the mask is scary… He looks like a character from a movie.

The teacher smiled politely.

Thank you for welcoming our group, Captain.

Jhonatas nodded.

Welcome to Orion Base. Today you will learn about part of the military routine.

Miler smiled amusedly.

— And without fainting when they hear training shots.

Some students laughed nervously.

Niack remained silent, observing everyone until he noticed Lyra in the middle of the group.

Captain, your sister is here.

Jhonatas looked at her and smiled slightly.

— Lyra.

His colleagues were immediately surprised.

— Is your brother the captain?! — You never told me this!

Professor Helena pointed at her.

Lyra, come and introduce yourself to them.

She took a deep breath and went to the front.

— This is my brother, Captain Jhonatas… and this is his team. They sometimes come to my house.

"Sergeant Miler is the favorite," he said jokingly.

"That's a lie," Jackson replied.

The students laughed.

A girl looked at Niack.

Lieutenant... why are you wearing a balaclava?

Silence fell over the place.

Niack replied calmly:

Operational habit.

Jon whispered:

He thinks it's stylish.

"Private Jon," Niack said seriously.

• Yes sir.

Even Lyra ended up chuckling softly.
