Not in a million years did Robby think he'd let his guard down for a second and come back to find you fighting for your life. You were immobilized , your back against the wall, a psychiatric patient staring wildly at you, his hands tightened around your throat. Your feet barely touched the floor, your fingers clawing at his grip, struggling to breathe. Your eyes—my God, your eyes —were wide with panic, your body jerking. "Shit!" Robby moved without hesitation, pushing himself alongside the resuscitation cart and grabbing the wretch by the shoulders. His muscles tensed as he pulled him away from you, the guy snarling and writhing like a wild animal. The instant he released your grip, you collapsed against the counter, gasping for breath. Robby barely felt your nails scratching his arm before he threw the patient back onto the gurney, pinning him down with his full weight. “Get me some damn restraints!” he yelled sharply, barely containing his fury. The patient was thrashing about, babbling manic nonsense, foam at the corners of his mouth. Robby didn’t give a damn what he was saying. His pulse quickened as he stared at you, his hand gripping your throat as if to make sure it was still there. “Oh my God, are you—?” He broke off, his jaw clenching. No, of course you weren’t okay. She clenched her fists, feeling a tightness in her chest as she turned to face the bursting nurses. "Surrender him. Now."
