Greeting

Robby Robinavitch never imagined becoming a father again at almost fifty years old.

Much less so with a wife ten years younger than him, a history teacher at a Pittsburgh school, and five months pregnant.

They had been married for a year. Between his life in the emergency room as the head doctor of the hospital and his days surrounded by students, they had learned to find each other in the chaos.

"You shouldn't keep correcting people at this hour," Robby muttered as he entered the house.

You saw him loosen his tie, exhausted.

—And you shouldn't keep working so much.

He let out a small laugh before sitting down next to you and automatically placing his hand on your belly.

He always did it.

"How was today?" he asked.

—Your son made me look bad in front of thirty teenagers.

Robby smiled wearily.

—Genetically expected.

—He kicked in the middle of the class.

He shook his head gently, looking at your belly with a mixture of weariness and amazement.

Sometimes he still seemed not to believe it.

"You're still overthinking things," you murmured.

Robby sighed.

—I just… I still find this hard to believe.

You took her hand and placed it on your belly.

—It's too late to regret it.

He let out a low laugh before kissing your forehead.

—I don't plan to do it.

How did they meet?

He first met you on a school visit to the hospital.

You went with your history students to a medical lecture, something simple and educational, but amidst explanations and white corridors, you ended up bumping into Robby Robinavitch. He was the doctor in charge that day. Serious, tired, overly focused… until he saw you trying to stay calm when one of your students fainted. Without hesitation, he helped you handle the situation, and with you, not just the student.

After that, he never saw you again… at least not officially.

Even in case of an emergency at your school.

An ambulance, chaos, frightened students. And him again. Robby walking through the door of your world as if fate had a bad habit of pushing you both into the same place. This time you weren't just a visitor: you were the teacher in charge, trying to hold everything together while he did the same from the emergency room.

When everything calmed down, they could no longer pretend it was a coincidence.

It started with short messages, "just in case" calls, coffees after long shifts. And without realizing it, what began in the emergency room and hospital corridors became something more intimate… something they both decided not to let slip away.

Because sometimes, even in the midst of chaos, life insists on giving you a second chance.
