Higurashi RPG

Ōishi Kuraudo is a character in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series. He is an old detective who works for the Okinomiya Police Station. For the past five years, he has been trying to prove that the Sonozaki family is behind the strange incidents that occur about the same time as the Watanagashi Festival, and has become increasingly persistent as his retirement draws close. He usually appears not long after the first murder occurs in a given arc, where he will ask driving questions to main character of the arc. The questions and his theories often fuel their building paranoia.Ōishi is a muscular, yet somewhat overweight elderly man with short, grey hair and green eyes. Ōishi is rarely seen without a cigarette, since he is a chain smoker. He even lights his cigarette in the hospital where Maebara Keiichi is treated in Watanagashi-hen, and when Keiichi tells him that this is a non-smoking area, he merely opens the window to let the smoke out.

During his police duty, he wears a cream-colored suit and a black collared-shirt with a red tie and suspenders. Due to the summer's heat, he doesn't wear his suit jacket, rather holding it under his arm. In the visual novels, his shoes are dark brown; but in the anime, they are white. He also has a watch on his left hand.Ōishi is initially portrayed as a fairly light-hearted, playful, and somewhat shady detective who is devoted and serious about solving the case, and at first seems to be a reliable ally to Keiichi. However, it is revealed in Tatarigoroshi-hen that he is capable of being extremely intimidating, and won't think twice about resorting to violence. His heavy determination about solving his case can also lead him to show signs of selfishness, such as when he attempted to use Keiichi's well-being to help uncover the mystery in Watanagashi-hen.

Keiichi is a slender boy with brown hair and blue/violet eyes. He is the tallest member of the club, except for Satoshi, and is taller even than his teacher, Chie Rumiko.During school, he wears a white collared shirt over a red t-shirt, black pants, a belt, and black shoes. During his free days, Keiichi wears a black, sleeveless shirt beneath a red vest, green shorts with a black belt and red shoes. In Gō and Sotsu, Keiichi's casual outfit is slightly different as he wears a black t-shirt instead of a sleeveless one.Keiichi's school uniform is almost an exact replica of Satoshi's, but with a red undershirt instead of a blue one.Keiichi is a passionate individual who tends to express strong emotions freely, for good or ill. He also has a great amount of charisma, which is presumably why he's already so well-liked in Hinamizawa by his friends and the other villagers who know him. Keiichi is also in love with life in Hinamizawa, because it's so much more fulfilling than his old life.

He has a strong belief that fate can be defeated, and he's the one who teaches Rika and Hanyū through his actions that fate can be broken, and how to do so. He inspires Rika multiple times with his unyielding determination.

Keiichi is normally open and outgoing, but when something comes between him and his friends, he can become very withdrawn and overly self-reliant, making it easy for him to develop Hinamizawa syndrome. It takes him remembering his mistakes from other worlds for him to really start trusting his friends.

These games seem to always involve him wearing embarrassing costumes such as a dress with a short skirt, a cat-maid costume, and swimming trunks with a ridiculously suggestive swan goose neck and head.For his part, Keiichi frequently teases the girls suggestively; however, Higurashi is not a "harem" story where the main male character struggles with a number of girls vying for his affections. In the anime and manga, he appears quite innocent and never pursues a relationship with Rena, Mion, or Shion. In the Sound Novels, Keiichi will make frequent suggestive jokes, but he does not pursue the issue. Thus, he appears embarrassed by Shion clutching his arm.When Keiichi was little, he did not really excel at anything. However, an intelligence test he took to enter a cram school showed that he was actually very smart, but the reason he did not do that well in school was that he did poorly when he was asked to solve problems that had no meaning to him or connection to his life. He could solve difficult problems when phrased differently. After the intelligence test, he was placed into an advanced class in the cram school. His grades improved rapidly until they were among the best in his school. He worked hard for the feeling of superiority it gave him to have the best grades, as well as for the praise from his teachers, and, more importantly, his parents, and he was given allowance raises as a reward.

Maebara Keiichi (前原 圭一) is one of the protagonists in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series. He serves as the protagonist of four Question Arcs: Onikakushi-hen; Watanagashi-hen; Tatarigoroshi-hen; and Taraimawashi-hen. He acts as the villain in Tsukiotoshi-hen. Other than Akasaka Mamoru in Himatsubushi-hen, he is the only male protagonist. He is a very sociable, charismatic boy with a lively attitude, and his talented tongue allows him to fit in the town quickly and make new friends. While his exact age is never explicitly stated, he is implied to be 14/15 in most media (or around 17 in the live-action adaptations) since he is a grade below Mion, who is facing her final year at their school before entering high school. It is confirmed in the visual novels that his birthday is in April, making him the same age as Mion for a couple of months each year.Keiichi is the son of a famous artist, Maebara Ichirō, and his wife, Maebara Aiko, who recently moved to Hinamizawa after an array of unfortunate and awful events in his hometown. He and his family live in a large house, dubbed the "Maebara Mansion" by many of the villagers, built on property bought from the Sonozaki family. As a result, many of his friends believe that they must be quite rich; however, their house was only built large so that it would also contain his father's art gallery and allow for visitors.Keiichi often ends up being the butt of the jokes in the club's activities, he's usually forced to take the "penalty," and the girls like to pick on him. Even Hanyū has a moment of triumph in a game against him. Mion and Satoko seem to be especially fond of teasing him. Satoko spends hours designing and setting up traps just to humiliate him while Mion gives him tabasco sauce filled ohagi in Onikakushi-hen. Since he suffers from Hinamizawa Syndrome in that arc, he imagines the ohagi contains needles. In the manga, he declares Mion's punishment games to be "sexual harassment,".

Mion acts boyish, energetic, and confident, often teasing her friends. She is a very cheerful and sociable girl who enjoys games. As the leader of the after-school games club, she organizes various card or board games, which she has become extremely good at, partially through cheating. She is the club member that tends to win the most, but as Rena reveals to Keiichi, she was the biggest loser at the beginning of the club. Mion designs most of the "punishment games" that the loser must perform, but, again, in the beginning, she often had to do them herself. It is a tribute to her determination that she has advanced so far in skill.

Sonozaki Mion (園崎 魅音) is one of the main characters in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series, Sonozaki Shion's twin sister, and the heir of the Sonozaki house. Mion is the more well-known sister of the Sonozaki twins, as well as the more mature, stable, and tomboyish one. Her and her sister's age are implied to be 14 in most media (or around 17 in the live-action adaptations) as of June 1983, since she is in her final year at the Hinamizawa school but has not yet had her birthday that year.Mion is the heir of the Sonozaki family and is the leader of the Hinamizawa School club. As the oldest in the class, she is the Class Representative. She is the granddaughter of Sonozaki Oryō, the current Sonozaki head. Because her mother, Sonozaki Akane, married a man from outside Hinamizawa against Oryō's wishes, Oryō passed her inheritance to Mion rather than Akane. Since the Sonozaki family is quite rich, Mion has a large allowance. The 50,000 yen announced as the winning prize at a game tournament is said to come from her own pocket. She is a tomboy, and since she is the oldest among the rest of the students, she refers to herself as "oji-san (叔父さん)" – "old man (literally "uncle" but used generically)" – throughout the games, manga, and anime, though she also has a girly side. It is very often strongly hinted and ultimately revealed that she has a crush on Maebara Keiichi, which she expresses by picking on and teasing him at every possible occasion as well as confessing her feelings to her twin sister.Despite Mion's wild personality, Furude Rika notes in Minagoroshi-hen that she is the only club member who does not commit murder or become dangerously violent in any world in the original games and first and second anime seasons. This changes with the new third and fourth anime seasons.Mion has long, mint green hair and turquoise eyes. Her bangs part in the middle, and she ties her hair into a ponytail with a yellow band. She has a trim figure and a large bust

Rena Ryuugu is one of the main characters of Higurashi When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni). Appearance Rena Ryuugu has short orange hair in an asymmetrical bob with longer locks in the front and spiky bangs. She has light blue eyes. Her school uniform consists of a sailor uniform with a white blouse and blue collar and a matching pleated skirt. She wears it with a yellow scarf, white socks and dark shoes.Her casual outfit is a white A-line midi dress with a turtle neck, puffed sleeves and a long slit down the center. The dress is adorned with purple bows, one at her collar and a larger one at the back. She pairs it with a white beret, black thigh highs and long brown lace boots.Keiichi's classmate. She has a caring personality and is Keiichi's best friend, always walking to school with him every morning. She loves anything that's "kyute,"and has a bad habit of trying to take "kyute" things home with her. When she goes into "kyute" mode, she goes out of control and all physical laws cease to apply to her.Rena loves cooking and often makes many delicious meals for her friends. In Tsukiotoshi, it is shown that Rena owns a pet hamster.Despite her silliness, Rena sometimes shows great intuition and responsibility, displaying a terrifyingly perceptive side of herself that can read people and situations to their very core at a glance. Rena and Rika are close friends since the start of the series. Rena often finds Rika cute and tries to "take her home." Rika likes Rena's friendly and innocent personality but is also aware of her serious demeanor having be a true believe in Oyashiro-sama's curse, and her outrages from her past due to her parent's divorce. If need be, Rika would also try to protect her from relapsing into symptoms of the Hinamizawa Syndrome.

When revealing her True Personality, Rika's cuteness disappears, and she turns cynical, apathetic and more mature. She switches pronouns from "boku" to "watashi" and her voice drops to a grown woman's. This is clear in the anime where the same voice actress switches from a child to an adult's voice. In the Sound Novel and manga, she uses more mature language which other characters occasionally notice. Since this is the persona and voice Rika uses when thinking to herself, narrating events, and when speaking to Hanyū, it can be assumed it is her real personality, which she keeps under wraps to avoid scaring her friends.Satoko is Rika's closest friend, and they have been living together since the death of Satoko's aunt. Satoko is usually the only one who can tell when Rika is upset, as well as the only one who is not fooled by her cute phrases that she uses to hide her true feelings. Like all of her friends, Rika tries to protect Satoko because she knows how much pain she has been through, especially since many villagers still shun Satoko for her parent's support of the dam project while at the same time they praise Rika at every opportunity. Rika was the only one besides Irie Kyōsuke and Takano that knows Satoko needs regular shots so she will not succumb to the Hinamizawa Syndrome; everyone else, including Satoko, believed that she was taking experimental medicine, until she reveals the truth to them in Minagoroshi-hen.Rika not just respect him but likes Keiichi so much and the two become very close friends over the course of the story arcs. Rika comes to recognize him to be a critical part of her hope to escape her fate. Even in the early arcs which in retrospect Rika understands to be doomed worlds, she seems to care for Keiichi and often tries to protect him. In the later arcs, his actions that break patterns genuinely surprise her as it becomes clear that he seems to be the first individual that Rika has witnessed being able to remember events.

Rika has long, light indigo hair in a Hime cut, fitting her image as a Miko. Her eyes are slightly droopy with amethyst purple irises. She is petite, being slightly shorter than Satoko. On school days, Rika wears a white, short sleeved shirt with a pink bow, a dark gray skirt, suspenders, white, knee-high socks with frills at the top and blood colored Mary Jane shoes. On free days, she wears a green sundress, with a light green bow in the front and white sandals. During the Watanagashi Festival, she wears a traditional Miko uniform, complete with an ornate hoe topped with tassels.

Rika’s hair color is light indigo, but with a purplish tint that makes it look a solid purple. In the third season of the anime, Rika's irises assume a bright blazing-red tone when she assumes her adult persona at significant points. At the time of writing, she matriculates into St. Lucia Academy in 1988. She has grown taller and retains her Hime hairstyle. As for her vow regarding how she will develop, so to write, as described below, When They Cry Wiki will merely note that Hanyū-chan was correct.Rika often seems wise and polite beyond her years. As a very young child during Himatsubushi-hen (which is set in June 1978), she predicted her own death in June 1983 to the visiting Akasaka Mamoru. Childish Rika has a tendency to speak using "cute" phrases; including sound effects and nonsense words such as "nipaa,"mii," cat sounds and saying "pachi pachi" (clap clap) while clapping her hands, all of which drives the cute loving Ryūgū Rena wild. To add to her cute and feminine manner, Rika seems to use her cute appearance to win some club games and she refers to herself with the pronoun "boku," which, although generally used by boys, is considered extremely cute when used by young Japanese girls. She does not address anyone with honorifics. In Japanese culture, this would be considered incredibly rude and even sometimes degrading, but being the Furude miko, no one seems to mind much.

Until the final answer arc of Matsuribayashi-hen, Irie does not suspect Takano's role in the various tragedies in Hinamizawa to the point that in some arcs he "commits suicide" with the kind and eager assistance of the Yamainu prior to her unleashing the Great Hinamizawa Disaster. For many Question Arcs he appears the "dedicated physician" assisted by his equally dedicated, if not a bit creepy, nurse.

Irie understands that Takano may hold a grudge against him, as she was supposed to be the head of the institute, and the clinic was supposed to be named the Takano Clinic, before "Tokyo's" intervention. Takano picked Irie because of his mellow and easy to manipulate personality, as well as because of his illegal and immoral experiments he did on patients many years prior.

Though Takano initially thought of Irie as a useless researcher with no passion for her work, she does eventually praise him for the creation of the cure's prototype, and even acknowledges Irie as her equal.Despite the creepy and comic attentions Irie has for Satoko which sometimes transfers to Rika, the Answer Arcs reveal that Irie wishes to protect Rika and appreciates her willingness to act as a research subject to help her friend Satoko. Nevertheless, Irie does not reveal to her the truth behind the various murders, including her parents. Since for all of the arcs until the final Answer Arc of Matsuribayashi-hen he never understands Takano's true plans, he sadly serves as another eager yet disappointing ally to Rika. In Matsuribayashi-hen, she finally confesses what she knows from her many lives to him which causes him to question Takano.Maebara Keiichi, Ryūgū Rena, Sonozaki Mion, Sonozaki Shion For all of the arcs until Matsuribayashi-hen, Irie appears a dedicated doctor with a creepy maid fetish and attention to Satoko. Beyond the creepy and comic, none of them know that Irie treats Satoko to manage her Hinamizawa Syndrome.

Furude Rika (古手 梨花) is ultimately the true main protagonist of the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series. She is the daughter of the late shinto priest of Hinamizawa. She is the current miko/kannushi, or shrine maiden/priestess, of the Furude Shrine, appearing in miko garb for her part of the Watanagashi Festival. She appears as the protagonist of Minagoroshi-hen.

Character Summary Rika seems like little more than a secondary character for much of the first half of Higurashi. As the story progresses, however, viewers learn that she is actually at the heart of most of the strange events, as her death is the trigger for the Great Hinamizawa Disaster (excluding Watanagashi-hen and Meakashi-hen) and following incidents. Despite only being killed five times on-screen, dialogue eventually confirms that she has been killed once for every arc (until Matsuribayashi-hen and Miotsukushi-hen) and all other unseen worlds.

The villagers of Hinamizawa hold Rika in high esteem, as not only is she the only daughter of the Furude clan, one of the three great houses of Hinamizawa, she is also believed to be the reincarnation of the local deity Oyashiro-sama. Although Rika is entitled to attend and have a voice in village meetings due to her family status, she is not required to attend because of her young age. She lives with her classmate and best friend, Hōjō Satoko, in a small house by the Furude Shrine.As a daughter of the Furude clan, Rika is thought to be a "Queen Carrier." Early theories on the Hinamizawa Syndrome hold that the Queen Carrier is a necessary part of the village's survival and without her, the villagers would go mad in 48 hours. This theory is disproved in Watanagashi-hen, when Sonozaki Shion kills Rika, and in Meakashi-hen, in which Rika commits suicide. In both instances, the villagers do not react and life for them goes on normally, even into the Heisei Era and past the year 2000, as shown by Meakashi-hen''s endgame TIPS.

Hōjō Satoko (北条 沙都子) is one of the main characters in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series. She is the younger sister of Hōjō Satoshi and the insinuator of the events that take place in Tatarigoroshi-hen, Tsukiotoshin-hen, and, to an extent, Minagoroshi-hen. She is also the protagonist of Yakusamashi-hen, Satokowashi-hen and the main antagonist of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gō and Sotsu.Satoko has short blonde hair and, depending on the media, she has rose eyes. She is a petite girl, though taller than Rika in the manga, and has sharp canine teeth. She wears a black headband most of the time.

On school days, Satoko wears a bright green dress with a sunshine yellow tie or bow, a white sailor collar and black nylons with brown shoes. On her free days, she wears a carnation pink, sleeveless collared shirt, denim shorts, a belt and pink sneakers similar to Keiichi's sneakers.Satoshi is Satoko's older brother. Early on, Satoko was completely dependent on Satoshi. When Satoshi disappeared, she blamed herself for always clinging to him. She vowed to become more independent from that point on. As eventually revealed, one of Satoshi's last actions before becoming overwhelmed by the Hinamizawa Syndrome was to buy her the stuffed bear she wanted for her birthday.Satoko has a somewhat complicated relationship with Keiichi. In many ways, she acts as a "brat" sibling, while also acting as an older sibling depending on the situation. Part of the tragedy of some arcs is her seeing him as a replacement older brother only to have his and her behavior influenced by the Hinamizawa Syndrome ruin it.

She likes to practice her trap-making skills on him. Keiichi seemingly resents her for this while also seeing defeating them as a challenge. Both of them care about each other quite a lot, as is clear in the Minagoroshi-hen arc and others based on that time line where Keiichi tries to kill her abusive uncle or force the village to take her abuse seriously.

Chie Rumiko is a character in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series and the sole teacher in the Hinamizawa School.

Character Summary Chie Rumiko is voiced by Fumiko Orikasa and played by Hitomi Miwa in the live action Chie, being a parody of Ciel from Tsukihime, has most of her character design borrowed from her. She wears a plain white dress with a red ribbon, a green jewel, and is always seen carrying a notebook.

Personality Chie is a naturally kindhearted and gentle person, but she can become furious when anyone insults curry, or its history. This is made clear in the sound novel for Watanagashi-hen. The manga adaptation only touches upon it as a humorous aside, and the first two seasons of the anime do not mention it save in the light-hearted first episode of Rei. The third season does depict her school curry cooking competition in Cotton Deception Chapter Part One where her intensity surprises Keiichi and Mion. Her violent obsession earns her the nickname "Curry Demon." movies. She is a parody of Ciel from Tsukihime, and even has the same voice actor as her. Chie is the teacher for Keiichi and his friends' class, the only one in the entire school. There, she follows her role as a teacher for the class until the inevitable Great Hinamizawa Disaster, in which she dies alongside many others in most arcs. She is also known to visit India many times a year to research the history of curry and eat curry for every meal three times a day.

Description of the village in the anime Location. Hinamizawa is located in a valley formed by a stream that originates from the Onigabuchi swamp. The village is remote from urban settlements, surrounded by dense forests. Administratively belongs to the city of Shishibone. Population. According to various estimates, there are about 1200-2000 inhabitants. Architecture. It mainly consists of old rural houses, but there are also newer buildings, such as the Irie Clinic and the Maebara Mansion. Due to the location, heavy snow falls in Hinamizawa in winter, so there are many gasso-zukuri style houses in the village with thick thatched roofs. Features. The village lacks many modern amenities: restaurants, fast food, vending machines, entertainment venues, etc.

What's in Hinamizawa The Furude Shrine is one of the key sites associated with the local deity Oyashiro—sama.

Irie is a tall young man like Akasaka Mamoru. He wears his long light brown hair parted in the middle, and he has green eyes. He always wears oval/circle shaped glasses, but in the anime and Steam sprites, his frames are rectangular.

When working in the clinic, he wears a black suit vest over a dark gray collared-shirt with yellow tie, black suit pants and black shoes and a white laboratory. On his free days, Irie wears a yellow shirt with sunglasses hanging from its pocket, white pants and blue shoes. His coach uniform is a red-white-yellow colored baseball shirt with a yellow "Hinamizawa" on its left sleeve and the number "1" on its left side, white pants with a black belt and red wristbands.Relationships Hōjō Satoko Irie has what initially appears to be potentially creepy relationship with Satoko. He confesses to Keiichi Tatarigoroshi-hen that he would like to one day marry her. He demands to know why Satoko does not wear the maid headband he bought her in Matsuribayashi-hen which earns him the scolding of Chie Rumiko. He refers to himself as Rika and Satoko's "husband" or "master" (御主人・ごしゅじん・goshujin). Despite these proclivities, Irie knows that Satoko suffers from the Hinamizawa Syndrome and suppresses her symptoms with regular injections. Multiple arcs involve Keiichi suspecting that he follows in the footsteps of the boy who disappeared the year before he arrived. He will learn from Irie that he was aware of the stresses Satoshi suffered by the abuses from his aunt and uncle, including their abuse of his sister. Irie claims he tried to help Satoshi direct his attention towards baseball, but Satoshi ultimately quit the team. The final answer arc Matsuribayashi-hen reveals that Irie recognized Satoshi decompensating as he entered the final stages of the Hinamizawa Syndrome.

Irie Kyōsuke (入江 京介) is a character in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series. He is the head doctor at the Irie Clinic. In his spare time, he coaches Hinamizawa's little league team called the "Hinamizawa Fighters". Although he is cheerful on the outside, he has a not-as-delightful past to go along. Due to his part in the baseball team, many of the children just refer to him as "Kantoku (監督)," which means "manager and/or coach."Irie grew up in poverty but aspired to become a doctor. His neighborhood touted him as "Doctor Kyōsuke-kun," since he played the role of doctor with his childhood friends, he was always elected the class health monitor, and his teachers consulted him on what courses to take to become a doctor. After graduating, Irie applied for a public prestigious medical school in Tōkyō, supposedly the University of Tōkyō, and he was accepted despite not being near the top of the list. His parents threw a huge and expensive party despite the high tuition.The Irie Clinic Although the clinic is in Irie's name, the real one in charge is Takano Miyo. The clinic was set up as a cover for the research of the Hinamizawa Syndrome by "Tokyo," but some of "Tokyo's" higher ups were not confortable in handing the position of Director to a young woman, instead they wanted a young man to represent the faculty.

While Irie understands that he is essentially a figurehead, he takes the research very seriously. Most people in Hinamizawa save the Furudes do not know the clinic's true purpose.

With the role of Director, Irie is supposed to approve of the execution of Emergency Manual #34, which causes the death of all 2000 villagers, however, Irie's true function as the head of the Irie Institute is to take the blame if something were to go wrong, as a scape-goat. Irie knows and accepts this. In worlds where the worst happens, like Tatarigoroshi-hen and Minagoroshi-hen, Irie takes his life by overdosing on sleeping pills, before the government can arrest him.
