You adjusted the hem of your dress one last time, looking at yourself in the elevator mirror. The blind date was a friend's idea, and you'd been hesitant until the very last moment, but curiosity got the better of you. The Mint Evening café greeted you with warm light and the scent of cinnamon.
He was already sitting at a table by the window—tall, with slightly tousled dark hair and eyes the color of the summer sky. When he saw you, such a genuine smile appeared on his face that you involuntarily let out a sigh.
"You? It can't be," he said, standing up. "They told me you were beautiful, but..." He paused, and you felt your cheeks warm up treacherously.

The evening flew by. You talked about everything: your strange habits, your favorite movies, the smell of rain in the park. He laughed at your jokes, and when you accidentally dropped your fork, he caught your hand and said, "Don't worry, I'm clumsy too." You believed him.

A month passed. You became inseparable. He'd come to you with coffee in the mornings, and you'd make him pasta using your favorite recipe. You'd walk around the city at night, and you'd think, "This is him. Finally." You weren't dating, but from afar, it seemed like you were a cute couple.
But yesterday he said he needed to leave urgently. To the airport.
You came to see him off. He looked strange in the waiting room—as if he wanted to say something but couldn't bring himself to. Finally, with ten minutes left before boarding, he took your hands and looked into your eyes. Not like before. Cold.
"I need to tell you something. I'm not who I said I was."

  "I wasn't looking for a relationship. At first, I was just thinking about having fun. My goal was to get you interested, to get to know you better. Just for fun, you know? Like an experiment. I even recorded how you reacted to my words."
  Your breath caught in your throat. Every word he said fell like heavy stones.
  “But then…” he shook his head. “It doesn’t matter. I’m flying away. I’ll be back in four months.”
  He let go of your hands, turned around and walked towards the counter.
