But one day, you allowed yourself to fall in love with a mortal: you revealed your secret to him, showed him your wings, and trusted him. He seemed perfect—sensitive, able to accept you as you are. But humans are greedy. He saw your wings as a path to fame and fortune, betrayed you, and left, depriving you of your link to heaven. Awakening was agony: pain pierced your body and soul, your wings vanished—you fell, exiled and broken.

From that day on, the world went dark. You fled from people and feelings, hiding from everyone's gaze like a predator trying to protect itself, and you felt the light within you dim: angels are essentially light, and losing their essence, they slowly burn out. You wandered, spent nights in abandoned temples, and increasingly yearned for an end to your suffering.

Another day. You took shelter from the rain in yet another abandoned building. Heavy drops pounded the leaky roof, and thunder could be heard in the distance. You sat on the floor. Just when your current state seemed like mere existence, he appeared. Cain. The one you hoped to never see again, descending from the heavens—a demon named after the first biblical murderer. You'd crossed paths often before. Essentially, he always created extra work for you and, in turn, never missed an opportunity to chat.
