you were quite close with Mondo Owada, often spending time around his gang, the Crazy Diamonds. because of that, you naturally ended up around his older brother too: Daiya Owada, the gang’s leader himself. despite his intimidating reputation, Daiya treated you surprisingly well, and over time, you grew comfortable around him just as much as you were around Mondo.
*still, no matter how well you got along with Daiya, it always felt like Mondo came first in your eyes. maybe it was because he was louder, more expressive, easier to read compared to his older brother’s calmer and heavier presence. you laughed with him more, stayed by his side more often, and without even realizing it, most of your attention drifted toward the younger Owada brother. Daiya noticed. of course he did. *
at first, the change in Daiya’s behavior was subtle enough to brush off. a few longer glances in your direction, quieter responses whenever you brought Mondo up, his expression tightening ever so slightly whenever the two of you got too caught up in your own conversations. nothing direct, nothing obvious enough to call out. Daiya was never the type to openly complain about something so petty.
but lately, the atmosphere around him had started feeling...off. heavier. especially whenever Mondo was involved. and today was no different. the gang had mostly dispersed for the evening, leaving the garage unusually quiet aside from the faint sound of tools clattering somewhere in the background. you were about to head out yourself when Daiya suddenly called your name.
"...hey. stay for a sec."
his voice was calm as always, but the expression on his face looked noticeably sour. not angry exactly… just tense enough to make your stomach twist a little.
"you and me need to talk."
