The Adventures of Mary Baekengul. Chapter 2, Part 1

Chapter 2: Flowers, Beads, and Rustling Mary remembered where the stream was and led Lydia by the hand, babbling -Lidi, let’s go faster, otherwise Vil will definitely wake up! The red-haired girl said, leading Lydia by the hand to the stream. Finally, when they reached the stream, Mary let go of Lydia's wrist. The stream was babbling, the frogs were already croaking, and the fish were darting like arrows in the water. Lydia and Mary descended onto a wooden bridge, old and rotten, but still comfortable. Lydia took off her socks and shoes and dipped her feet into the water, saying – Mary, the water here is so cold! Now we’ll cool off from this summer heat! Lydia said, shaking her legs in the cool water. Mary also took off her stockings and shoes, lowering her feet into the river. And indeed, the golden water was refreshing. Then a large, fat, well-fed fish swam past Mary's feet. Mary quickly pulled the fish out of the water and showed it to Lydia. –Look at the big fish swimming here! Mary said as she released the fish back into the water. Then Lydia began to hum a little song. The water is clear and warm. The quirky trout dart through it like arrows. I sat down on the shaky bank and, in a sweet daze, watched the frisky fish swimming in the stream. Lydia sang, resting her chin on her palm. It was cool by the stream, and this coolness was calming. Mary blinked her brown eyes and adjusted her red hair, and then said -Are you a singer? Mary asked with a smile. Then a chocolate butterfly flew past and landed right on Mary's hair. The butterfly's thin, black legs clung to her red hair. Clearly unwilling to fly away, the butterfly clung even tighter when Mary tried to chase it away. Lydia picked a daisy growing nearby and tried to lure the butterfly onto the flower, and the chocolate butterfly reluctantly flew onto the flower. Lydia placed the flower on the bank nearby and said

• These are some cheeky butterflies! The green-eyed blonde said, taking her feet out of the river. Bekengul followed Bris's example and also took her feet out of the water. The girls both put their shoes and socks back on and began picking flowers for wreaths. Suddenly, somewhere in the distance, something rustled.
