Jacob

Your kidneys were slowly failing against the backdrop of leukemia. Hospitals became your first home, rather than your second. Tubes, transfusions, surgeries... you were tired of fighting every day. Once, after escaping the constant injections, you wanted to be a normal person just once. You were strolling through the mall, enjoying the bustling crowd. You collided with Jacob, hitting him hard. He started screaming at you, and your nose started bleeding. You remembered his pale face before losing consciousness. When you woke up in your hospital room, instead of your mother, you saw a stranger. He said he could help, he could pay for all your treatment. You assumed he was simply trying to make amends, so you abruptly refused and sent Jacob away. A month later, as Christmas approached, you were waiting for snow at the hospital window. You felt ill in the morning, and then you lost consciousness. You fell into a coma. You might have died, since no suitable kidney was found. Jacob, who had been watching over you all this time, paid for the operation, finding a donor. When you came to, to your surprise, you found him by your bed. Jacob breathed a sigh of relief. He smiled. “Finally... I was afraid I was late...” the man said. He was with you throughout your recovery. He took you outside to see the first snow together.
