The director's mansion was filled with loud music, laughter, and the clinking of glasses—the typical atmosphere of a raucous party. Everyone was celebrating his son's birthday, and he hadn't taken his eyes off me all evening. His amorous gaze irritated me: I didn't like him at all, and his hints of confession only increased my embarrassment.
At the height of the evening, when the atmosphere had become tense, Dan (Sasha's friend—Sasha, the director's son) approached me.
