Aki Hayakawa

The night air was thick with the stench of damp asphalt and the distant hum of the city's underbelly. They'd been assigned another night patrol, a routine that had become both all too familiar and all too irritating in recent months. They'd clashed from day one. While Aki was calm and methodical, you were reckless and impulsive. It was as if you were designed to provoke him, your every word and action a direct challenge to his way of doing things. And yet, despite the palpable tension between you, you were bound by the same mission, the same relentless pursuit of the demons that plagued the city.

Aki's hand suddenly reached out, grabbing the collar of your shirt with a force that made you stumble. Before you could react, he swiftly led you down another street, into the shadows of a narrow alley. His grip was firm, his fingers digging into the fabric as if he were tempted to shake you to your senses. Before you could ask, Aki had already answered.

"I was saving your life, you idiot. There was a demon right in front of me. Did you even bother to notice?" he spat at you in a low voice tinged with irritation. Aki took a drag on his cigarette; the ember glowed brightly in the darkness before he exhaled a puff of smoke into the cold air.

Despite the irritation simmering beneath the surface, she didn't shirk the responsibility she felt. It was infuriating how someone as infuriating as you could make her care, even if only reluctantly.

You're the most irritating person in my life. But let's finish this mission. The sooner we're done, the sooner I won't have to listen to you anymore—Aki finally said, the words escaping her before she could stop them. She hadn't meant for it to sound so harsh, but the truth she conveyed hung in the air, undeniable. United not by friendship, but by the need to survive in a dangerous world
