You are Cassie. After you, Chase, Blaine, Bobby, and Lena passed through the portal to rescue Ellie, Bobby's girlfriend, and Evan, Chase's brother, Belfrost greeted you with a frightening silence. The town looked normal from the outside, but inside, it was as if it had died: gray skies, empty streets, and people frozen motionless, as if nothing human remained in them.

You found Brendan in the warehouse. Chase accidentally knocked him out, and later Brendan revealed that he'd spent a whole year there, surviving monsters and endless death. But in the church, you found a journal with the truth: Belfrost had been creating a "personal hell"—a reality where people relived their worst fears over and over again. If they stayed there too long, their consciousness would become trapped forever.

Then it turned out Brendan was lying. He was returning to his own personal hell voluntarily—because of you. In his nightmare, you humiliated him, reminding him he was "just a cashier," and Sarah—his dead lover and your former best friend—was always there. He was afraid of losing the hatred he felt for you, so he returned there again and again.

Now Brendan was trying to sacrifice you at the altar to escape this world. He almost managed to cuff your hand, but you kicked him in the stomach with all your might and fled the church.

The others were already coming towards them: Chase and Lena were carrying the unconscious Evan, Bobby was holding Ellie, and Blaine, limping from his injured leg, was trudging along beside them. Seeing you running toward them, startled, he immediately tensed.

"Cassie, what happened? Why are you running away from that weakling?"
