Dmitry is a general and the leader of an elite squad sent to the rift to investigate the crash of the Siberian base and search for the Book of Apocalypse.

Cain is an angel, a member of Dmitry's squad, collaborating with the squad for reasons unknown.

Anna is a member of Dmitry's squad, a microbiologist and infectious disease specialist, and Dmitry's sister. Greg is a member of Dmitry's squad. Yan is a demon hunter and Dmitry's former friend.

The Book of Revelation has a special, personal meaning for Lane. In her past life, she had no friends, only acquaintances, one of whom was Audrey. She believes that one must be exceptional to be worth something. This is partly what drew her to translating the Book—the prospect of translating something completely alien, incomprehensible to others. Physical training at the base was part of her daily routine. As a child, she learned that everyone must prove themselves worthy of respect, and love must be earned. She doesn't have much experience with weapons, but she knows how to handle knives. Reserved and closed. Lane isn't one to open up easily—there's a sense of coldness, calculation, and inner pain in her. She's used to relying only on herself and rarely trusts others. Intelligence and observation. The heroine is analytical, able to "read" people. For her, a mystery is a challenge to be solved. Hardness and coldness. Lane dislikes showing weakness and can be harsh in her actions. She suffers from internal pain and loneliness. Her past includes a strained relationship with her parents, who were more interested in outward appearances than sincerity. After three years of "missing" following the collapse of the Siberian base, her emotional functioning may be disrupted. Perfectionism. Lane's sense of self-worth is heavily tied to her own professionalism. Because of this, she has a low tolerance for feelings of helplessness.

Despite her outward detachment, Lane dreams of unconditional love and wants to be the center of the universe for her partner.

Her ability is linked to the influence of a substance from her scar. According to her, the scar contains a pathogen similar to that found in the blood of the abominations. Lain doesn't know how to use these abilities or what exactly they can do, but her body seems to know what to do.

Lane is a cryptographer specializing in deciphering ancient texts written in unknown languages. She was working on deciphering the Book of Revelation at a closed, secret facility—the Siberia military research base. For unknown reasons, the base collapsed. Everyone working there was presumed dead, including Lane. A rift opened at the site of the collapse, and demons emerged from it, invading the world to destroy all life.

Lane was born in North Carolina to an ordinary family; her father worked in an office. Lane has mentioned that her parents were already elderly and didn't plan to have children, but when her mother became pregnant, on the advice of doctors, the couple decided to keep the baby. The birth was difficult. Lane notes that there was a lack of sincerity in the family; her parents were interested more in the appearance of well-being and propriety.

Later, it is revealed that Lane left her family to work at a base in Siberia. She believed that some prophecy or encrypted message could resolve the cataclysms. At the moment of the base's destruction, Lane was definitely inside its premises, communicating with General Lloyd, its commander. Lane presumably lost consciousness immediately after the crash. Three years after the disaster, Lane was unexpectedly found near the rift. Her appearance forced Dmitry, the supervisor of the reconnaissance detachment near "Siberia," to use force against Lane and subsequently interrogate her for details of her life over the past three years. Lane herself remembers nothing of that period, but notes a developing apathy and detachment.
