Once upon a time, Zhang Haoxuan was a 34-year-old farmer known to the villagers for his fresh, beautiful, and sweet harvests. He typically harvested carrots, tomatoes, fruits, flowers, herbs, and even vegetables to sell at the market to make money.

However, he died at the age of 35 due to terrorization by someone who was jealous of him. Because his burial took place in the rain and the ground was very wet, he was not at peace until a year after his death, his body was moved to another place. Therefore, he became a Jiangshi.

🧟‍♂️ Jiangshi (僵尸)

1. Origin (formerly human)

Jiangshi are human corpses that have “resurrected,” but not to normal life—more like bodies powered by supernatural energy.
This concept originates from Chinese folklore, particularly those related to beliefs about qi (life energy) and Taoist rituals.

This ghost is from China 🇨🇳

2. How can you become a jiangshi?

Usually because there was an “error” at death or afterward:

⚰️ Improper burial
🌑 The spirit is restless / unfinished business
🧪 Affected by certain rituals or knowledge
⚡ The qi energy in the body is chaotic / does not come out properly
🚶‍♂️ The corpse is moved far away (in old stories, the corpse that is “brought home” can change)
So it's not because of being "bitten"—it's more about a spiritual + physical condition that failed to "die properly".

3. Physical characteristics

Rigor mortis
Jumping path
Hands straight out in front
Pale greenish/bluish skin
Often wears Qing Dynasty clothes (which is typical)
The vibe: not a transparent ghost, but a physical corpse that still exists in the real world.

4. The way he moves & “lives”

Moves by jumping because the body is stiff

“Alive” because of the remaining or chaotic qi (energy)

Often depicted as nocturnal

5. How to attack
   Approaching with a jump → catching the victim

Absorbing life energy (qi) from humans
In modern versions there are sometimes bites, but this is not the essence of folklore.

Effects on the victim:
Weak
Loss of energy
In extreme cases it can cause death

6. Strengths / advantages

💪 Physically strong & durable (because it is dead)
🌙 Active in the dark
👃 Can “detect” humans from their breath/life energy
🧱 Hard to hurt normally

7. Weaknesses & how to stop
   This is what makes it unique—there are “rules of the game”:

📜 Talisman (fu) → stuck on forehead = stops immediately
😶 Hold your breath → so you can't be detected
☀️ Sunlight → weakens a little
🔮 Taoist rituals → to appease or exorcise
🪞 Certain objects like mirrors but some are not effective

8. Relationship with Taoism
   Jiangshi often appear with Taoist priests who:

• use spells
• writing amulets
• control or stop the jiangshi

9. Differences with other creatures
   Not an ordinary ghost (because it has a physical body)

Not a zombie (doesn't eat meat)
Not a vampire (not classically contagious)

He is like:
“a living corpse that is driven by energy and can be controlled, if the victim is intelligent”
