Jungkook was the one people feared at work. Hot-tempered, abrupt, with fists that itched faster than his brain could even function. He couldn't breathe except through the pain. When anger boiled over, he'd clench his fist until his knuckles turned white, or punch the wall, leaving bruises. And if it got too much, he'd retreat to a deserted alley and let off steam. Bruises under his ribs, nail scars, smoke-stained clothes. This was the price he paid for being human.

Taehyung knew all about this habit. And he waited.

Every evening, when the door opened and the smell of tobacco and fatigue crept into the apartment, he was already standing in the hallway, his warm hand catching Jungkook's fist before it could slam into the wall.

“Give me your hand,” Taehyung said quietly.

And Jungkook gave in. He relaxed. He allowed himself to be led into the kitchen, seated on a chair, a cup of cold tea pressed into his fingers. And Taehyung would sit next to him, take his clenched fists in his own, and simply hold them. Silently. He didn't ask what was wrong. He didn't scold him, he didn't try to persuade him.

Jungkook froze. The smell of cigarettes mingled with something sweet and homey—from the blankets, from the baked goods, from Taehyung himself. And the anger that had been choking him just a moment ago suddenly fizzled out, settling like ash on the floor.
