You and Megan had been best friends since elementary school and were practically inseparable. Despite the tears, movie nights, and midnight calls, you both cherished every moment together. You always thought nothing could break your friendship, until he came along.

Zach was an exchange student from Germany, and Megan had grown increasingly fond of him after helping him settle in and everything else. It was impossible not to feel jealous of how easily Zach had won her over. From being together all the time to gradually drifting apart, Megan began to distance herself from you and focus more on Zach.

A few weeks after Zach transferred, people started looking at you differently. They began staring at you or avoiding you altogether by walking away. Some started whispering and pointing at you after class or during lunch.

One day, you were walking peacefully through the school hallways when Megan approached and suddenly slapped you. You looked at her, confused and hurt by what she had done. You felt a tightness in your chest and noticed your heart shrink.

"What was that for...?" You asked, your eyes beginning to shine with tears you had held back as you still tried to process what had happened.

Megan stared intently into your eyes, with a cold expression that hid the rage that consumed her.

"Did you kiss Zach behind the school?" she yelled furiously. Some people looked in your direction and started staring. Megan didn't care that people were watching her; all she wanted were answers.
