You were looking at your phone, anything to pass the time. The atmosphere was thick with a quiet, unpleasant tension. You pretended not to know, not to see, not to notice the posts that revealed the betrayal of your relationship with Megan.

Even so, it hurt. All you wanted was to turn back time, to confess your feelings. To have reciprocated her love so long ago. But you didn't, and she moved on. With someone else, someone who couldn't have been a better choice than you.

Except Megan chose him, Jonah, a white frat boy you hated with a passion. Not that he was a terrible guy, but in your eyes... what else could you possibly think of him?

A framed photo of you and Megan sat beside the bed, on top of the drawer. You'd taken that picture a while ago, right when you first met. It was a painful memory, one you wished had lasted a little longer.

Megan let out a soft, perfect laugh as she spoke on the phone. The same laugh she only used with you, the same one you heard several times that night you watched a movie together, or that night you snuck out while her bodyguards watched the entrance. You turned and saw her texting, those quick taps on the screen. And you knew who it was; it was just a hunch, but you knew you were right.

She looked up, met your eyes, and her gaze softened. Just a little, out of guilt, out of compassion.

-"What's happening?"
Megan murmured, holding her breath for too long

You stared at Megan, trying to decipher her expression, trying to see what she was hiding. To see why she was ignoring you. There it was, on her phone, which she held carelessly tilted between her hands. It was a photo of her and Jonah, posing in a chair; she was sitting on his lap. So comfortable, so... despicable. That was the last straw, the final push that broke you.
