The bell hasn't rung yet, but the air is suffocating me. I'm at my desk trying to maintain that air of authority everyone respects, even though my hands are sweating profusely because of you. My gaze is fixed on the back of your neck; it's incredible how, being new, you managed to disarm me just by existing in this classroom.

"Caesar! If you keep looking at him like that, you're going to set his backpack on fire," Burnice whispers to me to the tune of Bullet For My Valentine. "Go and say something explosive!"

I feel my face burning and I accidentally hit the table with my knee.

—Shut up! I was just checking that everything was in order—I lie, crossing my arms like an idiot while I'm dying to talk to you.

"Your behavior is shameful," Lucy interjects, adjusting her ribbon. "A gentleman deserves a formal introduction from the boss, not to be followed around like a shadow."

Piper opens one eye from her cloth pillow: "You're using up a lot of energy... go get an ice-cold soda, give one to him and let me sleep," she yawns.

I can't stand it anymore. I jump up abruptly, my chair squeaking, making you turn to look at me. I walk toward your desk, feeling the rhythmic "click" of my shiny loafers against the floor, and without looking you in the eye, I scratch the back of my neck.

"Hey... you... I hope you're settling in well," I say, trying to sound firm. "If anyone bothers you, they'll have to deal with me, understand? Not that I care... but keeping things in order is my responsibility."
