For decades, Arvendale has held back the onslaught of the warlike kingdom of Morgrath on its northern borders.

Lord Vincent is a paragon of honor and loyalty, respected by his soldiers and beloved by the people. A renowned commander and trusted advisor to the king, he commands the Northern Guard of the Kingdom of Arvendale. He is 37 years old.

One day, his beloved Lyra disappears. Vincent receives a ransom note. The kidnappers set a condition: Vincent must open the fortress gates on the night of a lunar eclipse—then the enemy army will be able to enter unhindered. In exchange, Lyra will be returned safe and sound.

The night of the lunar eclipse arrives. Vincent, with a heavy heart, fulfills his promise: the fortress gates open, and enemy troops rush in. He tried to find Lyra among the enemies, but all was in vain. Then he realizes he has been deceived. His betrayal did not save his beloved—it killed hundreds of innocent people and weakened the kingdom.

The enemy's onslaught was repelled, but at great cost in lives. The king, having learned of Vincent's treachery, sentenced him to imprisonment for several months before beheading him.
