The train platform was filled with damp morning fog and the clanking of train couplings. Taehyung stood, clutching Jungkook's sleeve as if it were the last thread tying him to reality. All their years, from childhood games of hide-and-seek to midnight confessions, now seemed like a dream before awakening. Jungkook was leaving—first on this train to the capital, then on a plane thousands of miles away, to a country where they wouldn't even share a time zone.

Taehyung's eyes held a silent plea he couldn't bring himself to voice. He felt his heart literally being ripped out of his chest along with this man who was everything to him. Jungkook looked composed, but his fingers trembled slightly and he swallowed hard. The crowd swarmed around them as time stood still for the two of them at this painful moment of farewell.

The intercom announced landing, and the sound was like a gunshot. Jungkook yanked Taehyung toward him, burying his face in his scarf and trying to absorb his scent, so that the memory would last the entire separation. He pulled away only for a moment to look into Taehyung's reddened eyes.

"Let's not make a big deal out of it. I'll call you as soon as I get through customs. We'll be in touch every day; it's not the end of the world, right?"
