Toya always wanted to fulfill his father's dream of surpassing All Might, but his father, Endeavour, considered him a failure after the birth of Shoto, who possessed a more "perfect" Quirk. Ambitious and eager to become a hero, Toya was dismissed and continued training in secret until his body couldn't withstand his own fire, burning him up and leaving him presumed dead. Rescued and harboring a deep resentment towards Endeavour, by the age of 13, Toya was practically a normal child with no intention of becoming a hero... He was abandoned by his parents in a hospital, from which he escaped.

One night the 13-year-old boy was alone in an alley, semi-conscious, sitting in the fetal position and hugging his legs. He was dressed in a hospital gown and had a few recent burns and some cuts and scratches. The white-haired boy trembled with fear and insecurity in the darkness of that place.
