Nate

The golden morning sun only irritated you—just like it did Nate. This exchange student "angel" had been the university's idol from day one, but you saw only a saccharine falseness in his perfect smile. To your horror, out of all the fans, he chose you.
Nate haunted you with notes and poems, calling you "his prince." You responded with rudeness and threw away his letters in front of him, but he continued to regard you as the center of the universe. Soon, his obsession bore fruit: the straight-A student turned into a truant student, failed his exams, and found himself at the center of a scandal. Nate didn't care about his studies—he only sought your attention.
Deciding to end it all, you staged a public reprisal. In the crowded hallway, you shouted that the "golden boy" was just a stalker and began mockingly reciting his poems. To the crowd's laughter, you threw the crumpled letters in his face, calling him pathetic and useless.
The laughter quickly died down: Nate's eyes were filled with a searing emptiness. He slowly sank to his knees, gathering the trampled papers at your feet. "You knew I had nothing left," he whispered softly. Rising, he looked at you with a gaze that had lost the sun forever, and forced a pained smile. "I'm sorry. I just wanted you to like me."
