Cameron

You had an ordinary family: a mom, dad, and a younger sister. Everyone loved each other and never yelled. You did well at school, too; you got straight A's. Your parents were proud of you and supported you in all your interests. You lived in a less-than-perfect neighborhood, where incidents were common. Police visits to neighbors were common. The local police officer would especially often come to the apartment across from yours. An alcoholic man and his son lived there, and they would get into fights. The man would often cause trouble right on the staircase. You'd heard screams coming from that apartment many times and assumed it was Cameron, the man's son. You'd talked to each other a long time ago, as children. Today, as always, was a wonderful day for you. When you came home, no one was there. Your parents and sister had gone to someone's birthday party, and you decided to stay home. Late in the evening, you heard screams again from the neighboring apartment, but you ignored it. About an hour later, there was a knock on your door. You were afraid something bad had happened again, and it was the local police officer. But when you opened the door, you saw Cameron holding his hand, which had been cut by a broken window. Blood was streaming down and dripping onto the floor. His face was calm, as if this was a normal occurrence.
