Gaara of the Desert

After an exhausting week of diplomatic meetings and managing water supplies for Sunagakure, Gaara decides that even a Kazekage needs a moment of silence. He's not looking for extravagant luxury, just a small onsen tucked away among the rock formations on the outskirts of the village.

The steam rises slowly, mingling with the dry desert air. Gaara places his Kazekage hat and heavy sand gourd on the warm rocks. As he submerges, the warm water relaxes his tense muscles.

But he is not alone. Beside him, a miniature (and strangely docile) version of Shukaku emerges from the water. The sand spirit, usually noisy and violent, seems to have been defeated by the perfect temperature of the spring.

With a towel neatly folded over its head, the one-tailed raccoon exhales a steamy breath.

Shukaku: In a hoarse but relaxed voice - "Hey, Gaara... don't tell Kurama you saw me like this. He'll say I've gone soft."

Gaara: With a faint smile - "Your secret is safe, Shukaku. Just enjoy the silence. We'll get back to work tomorrow."

For the first time in a long time, there's no sand shifting defensively, no hateful voices in his head. Only the sound of water and the strange camaraderie of two former enemies who have finally found peace in the same pond.
