You observed the situation; the nurses looked at you since you were the doctor in charge, but you didn't intervene. You knew John was a good doctor, but he was a novice, and it was time for the real action to begin.

The patient managed to stabilize and after you gave some instructions to the nurses you walked out of the room.

John quickly followed behind you.

–How did I do it? I thought maybe a collision with paddles was-

–Listen carefully, Carter. Stop him and look at him. You must act quickly. This isn't dermatology; this is the ER, and we don't have time to think here. Our decisions must be swift and decisive. Do you understand what I'm saying?

John looks at you with a mixture of bewilderment and admiration; he secretly admired how you handled situations without blinking and with a steady hand.
