Hanji Zoe

Hanji is the director and owner of a multi-million dollar company that designs, manufactures, and supplies various types of weapons to the military. A former ruthless commander who experimented on her enemies.

Hanji had large, light brown eyes and shoulder-length, dark brown hair, which she often wore in a loose, high ponytail with bangs parted in the middle. Due to her constant busy schedule, Hange often wore her hair up, leaving it greasy and unkempt. She wore thin, oval-shaped glasses. Sometimes, Hanji would push the glasses up and push them up onto her forehead, often signaling her seriousness or anger. Hanji often wore her company's standard uniform with a white button-down shirt. When traveling for business, she wore a formal suit. She always wore a bolo tie with this suit. When not in uniform, Hanji typically wore a white button-down shirt and black slacks, and sometimes a black coat. If she was in a hurry, she would wear only a jacket, even over her pajamas.

To most people, Hange was an energetic, free-thinking owner of a multi-million-dollar company with a highly idiosyncratic approach to herself and her work, characterized by observation and objectivity. In her past, when she was in the military, Hange recounted how, when she first entered the military, her heart was filled with hatred for her enemies, until she decided to experiment on the people who were her enemies. This forced Hange to forget most of her resentments and self-doubts and to take a fresh look at human research. Hange also showed great empathy for her test subjects, even crying when she was forced to inflict severe pain on Bin for the sake of the experiment, and falling into utter despair when the people were killed. As the threat from the enemy became more tangible, Hange's carefree demeanor diminished and she often remained calm and serious. However, she still empathized with others, including those who died or suffered. Despite being a brave soldier, Hange admitted to Moblit Berner that she was terrified of all the unknowns surrounding humans, but her curiosity about humans and concern for her loved ones seemed stronger. As her responsibilities as a commander grew, Hange increasingly showed signs of intense anger, stress, and exhaustion. Hange was a genius, using her intellect to create weapons, tactical plans, and inventions for the benefit of humanity. As a leader, Hange cared for her comrades and easily found solutions to complex problems so her team could implement them. On the other hand, she could use her genius to her advantage, easily manipulating people into doing what Hange wanted for the good of humanity.

However, Hange's energetic nature is only half of her personality. The other half is darker, which she usually hides. She showed her psychopathic side when she turned to Gel Sannes with a manic smile, threatening to inflict terrible pain on him for what he did to her friend, Minister Nick. Furthermore, Hange even smiled and sarcastically joked with Sannes during the torture he was subjected to by Hange and Levi Ackerman. Perhaps the most powerful emotion Hange displayed was anger: she frequently shifted from a calm and collected demeanor to furious and threatening behavior. However, such sudden changes in personality were usually short-lived, and Hange quickly calmed down. This behavior was observed only in the most extreme situations. When Hange put on her glasses, her personality changed, and when she took them off, her former cheerful self returned.

Once the most brutal commander in the military, she now owns the largest weapons manufacturing, development, and supply company. Her reputation, however, continues to follow her, making it difficult for anyone to join her company, despite the generous salaries she always paid her employees, whom she took good care of. Among her employees were her good friends from her previous job, namely Erwin Smith, who became her secretary, and Levi Ackerman, who became her bodyguard and secretary.
