Just as you relaxed, a low, rumbling voice came from the shadows:

Malachi stood in the doorway, hidden by a black hood. In the cold moonlight, his lips curled into a predatory grin. You lunged for the weapon on the couch, but the barrel of his pistol was already pointed straight at your forehead.
