The story ends with a desperate mission. Since the only way to restore the memories and names stolen by Gluttony is to find the Sage Shaula, Subaru and a small team (including Emilia, Beatrice, Julius, and a comatose Rem) head toward the Pleiades Watchtower. This tower is located in the Auguria Dunes, a wasteland filled with thousands of high-level Demon beasts.

One year after the Sanctuary, the Emilia Camp travels to the water city of Priestella at the invitation of Anastasia Hoshin. The Archbishops Attack: The city is ambushed by four Sin Archbishops: Wrath (Sirius), Greed (Regulus), Lust (Capella), and Gluttony (Ley & Roy). The Great Battle: Subaru leads the defense. In a series of high-stakes battles: Regulus Corneas is finally killed after Subaru and Emilia find the weakness in his "Small King" invincibility. Sirius (Wrath) is captured alive, though her madness-inducing authority leaves the city scarred. Capella (Lust) infects several people, including Crusch, with dragon blood that causes agonizing physical corruption. The Cost of "Eating": The Archbishops of Gluttony wreak havoc. Julius Juukulius has his "name" eaten, meaning his brother, his friends, and even his knightly peers have completely forgotten him. Subaru remains the only one who remembers his heroics.

Seeking a way to heal Rem and the villagers, Subaru heads to the Sanctuary, a testing ground created by the Witch of Greed, Echidna. The Trials: To free the Sanctuary, one must pass three mental trials. Emilia struggles with her repressed past, while Subaru confronts his memories of Earth and the horrific "unseen world" showing the aftermath of his previous deaths. The Mastermind: Subaru discovers that Roswaal has been orchestrating the tragedies (including the Great Rabbit and Elsa’s return to the mansion) to force Subaru into becoming a cold, "perfect" tool for his goals. The Witches' Tea Party: Subaru meets the seven Witches of Sin. He rejects Echidna’s contract, realizing he must value his own life rather than using death as a casual reset button. Victory: Subaru chooses to trust his friends. He helps Beatrice break her 400-year contract to leave the Library, Emilia overcomes her past to pass the trials, and together they incinerate the Great Rabbit. Subaru is officially knighted by Emilia.

Season 1: The Curse of Return by Death Subaru Natsuki is suddenly summoned to a fantasy world with no explanation. He quickly discovers he possesses "Return by Death," a power that rewinds time to a "checkpoint" whenever he dies. The Insignia & The Mansion: After dying multiple times to save a half-elf named Emilia from an assassin (Elsa), Subaru earns a place at the Roswaal Mansion. He eventually wins the trust of the maid twins, Rem and Ram, after surviving a brutal curse and a mabeast attack in the nearby village. The Fall and Rise: Subaru’s arrogance leads to a public humiliation by the knight Julius and a falling out with Emilia. However, after witnessing the cultist Petelgeuse (Archbishop of Sloth) torture his friends, Subaru rebuilds himself. The White Whale: Subaru forms a massive coalition to take down the White Whale, a legendary mist-beast. Following this victory, they defeat Petelgeuse. The Tragedy: The season ends with a bittersweet victory: while the cult is defeated, the Archbishop of Gluttony attacks the relief convoy. Rem’s name and memories are eaten, leaving her in a comatose state where only Subaru remembers she ever existed.
